Known as “Slicks” Siriano for his unadulterated speed, Rick Siriano was one of the best baseball players to come out of Thomas R. Proctor High School in the mid-1970s.  A three-time Central Oneida League All-Star, Siriano was a member of the first-ever Section III Championship High School baseball team in Thomas R. Proctor’s history.

Siriano was given a full-ride scholarship to the University of Louisville where he still holds the single-season records in Runs Batted In with 82 in 1980 (he was fifth in the nation overall) and in batting average with a ,477 clip in 1980 (sixth in the nation overall).  Since his graduation, three players have eclipsed his batting average mark, but he still remains fourth in school history.

At Louisville, Siriano was a star.  He hit 24 home runs in 55 games in 1980 leading the nation and achieving second place in school history with that total.  He also led the 1980 team with 15 doubles, 7 triples, and 24 stolen bases.  His stolen base total in 1980 is sixth overall in school history.  Siriano’s career batting average of .389 is second overall in school history.

In 1980, Siriano was named the METRO Conference Hitter of the Year and was a 1st Team METRO Conference Selection.  (The METRO Conference was made up of colleges like Florida State University, Memphis State University, Tulane University, Virginia Tech, the University of Cincinnati, and the University of St. Louis.)  Additionally, the University of Louisville named Siriano its Male Spring Athlete of the Year in 1980.

After a stellar career at Louisville, Siriano was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the 10th Round of the 1980 major League Draft.  He would play for three teams during his professional career among them were the Bradenton Braves of the Gulf Coast League in 1980, the Anderson Braves of the South Atlantic League in 1981, and the Durham Bulls of the Carolina League in 1982.  For the Anderson Braves he hit .290 in 1981 and was an All-Star selection.  Additionally, his .290 batting average led the team overall, as did his 111 hits, 24 doubles and 8 triples.

In his four seasons in the Minor Leagues, Siriano played in 341 games and amassed 283 hits.  Of those 283 hits, 50 were doubles, 13 were triples and 9 were home runs.  He batted in 38 runners and scored 46 runs himself.  His professional career batting average was .256.

After his professional career ended, Siriano has gone on to become a highly touted and respected umpire on the high school, collegiate, and professional levels.
