Throughout her high school, collegiate and professional softball career, Robin (Bumpus) Penoyer maintained her status as an elite pitcher. In a sport that receives little recognition from the mass media and provides a very small possibility of financial gain, she competed day after day with one thing fueling her, the love of the game.

Penoyer garnered the attention of the softball world during her high school career at Stockbridge Valley. Her toughness and character was tested by a serious injury when she tore her ACL, but she did not allow that to slow her down. She set national records for no-hitters and helped her teams win the league championship from 1984 to her senior year in 1988. In 1988, Penoyer cemented her legacy at Stockbridge Valley when her team brought home the New York State Championship. ESPN, Sports Illustrated and several college scouts throughout the country began taking a strong interest in her. Heavily recruited, she committed to the University of Minnesota where she was coached by softball icon, Linda Wells.

At Minnesota, Penoyer won a Big Ten Championship in 1991 and was a four-year letter winner. She was an All-Big Ten, pitched the school's first-ever Regional Post-Season win over Texas A&M University and during that season posted an unbelievable .88 earned run average. In 1993, she graduated from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology with a Coaching Minor.

While attending Minnesota, Penoyer competed with the Puerto Rican National Team in 1992 which started her international career. In her post-collegiate career, she played on the national and international levels, including stints with the Twin City Jammers, Allentown Pates, Pennsylvania Clippers and the Topton Vips where her team defeated the Australian National Team. Penoyer also competed in several tournaments over the next decade, continuing her elite play with multiple no-hitters and perfect games.

Penoyer coached scholastically at Stockbridge Valley, Clinton Central Schools and Whitesboro Central Schools, and on the collegiate level at Hamilton College and Morrisville State University prior to her current position as the head coach at Colby College in Waterville, Maine. Penoyer is a member of the Stockbridge Valley Central School Athletic Hall of Fame, the Amateur Sports Hall of Fame in Johnstown, Pennsylvania and the University of Minnesota Hall of Fame, M Room. She is also a sought after speaker at clinics and showcases around the country.
